The 2190 Sainte-Catherine Ouest project consisted in the construction of a 13-storey tower of rental condos while maintaining a heritage facade on Sainte-Catherine Street. The proponent's perspective was established quickly. The frame must be economical, efficient, and easy to build. Given the numerous projects built in the past in collaboration with the project promoter, the relationship of trust already established allowed the structural engineer to work with all the flexibility required to develop, calculate and design the reinforced concrete framework desired by the promoter. Like any project, 2190 Sainte-Catherine Ouest had its share of challenges. Building in a restricted space in downtown Montreal, developing the temporary support details of the heritage facade, attaching this heritage facade to the new concrete framework without damaging it are all challenges that were met by the design and construction team. The project was a success in terms of schedule and respect for the planned budget. This is largely thanks to the relationship of trust between the architect, the engineers and the builder.
