The renovation of the mill in the Pointe-du-Moulin Historical Park in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot is an ambitious project from a technical point of view. The aim of the project was to restore and put back into operation the mill, built in 1707. From our first visit, we identified several structural deficiencies in the massive wooden frame forming the roof of the mill that made the mill dysfunctional.
Several challenges awaited the structural engineer. First, it was necessary to carry out a complete survey of the mill's frame and determine the mechanical properties of the existing wood. Next, a modeling of the existing wood frame was carried out to determine the structural forces in each element when the mill is in operation. Throughout the process, fine coordination with the architect and the client was required to ensure that the structural interventions respected the spirit of heritage conservation of the project.
In conclusion, the project was a success. The deadline and budget were respected, and the mill is now open and functional. In particular, he received a Cecobois Excellence Award in 2023, in the Heritage Prize category.
